About Me
The Wallflower World was created when after ten years of working for other businesses, Tamara decided to trust in her own vision, creating playful and feminine custom-made pieces for women of all ages and body shapes, enhancing their natural beauty and allowing them to feel both confident and elegant. Given her eclectic history, it was inevitable that sense of drama, movement and vibrancy would infiltrate into her Wallflower designs.
Born and raised in London, England, Tamara graduated from Central Saint Martins, in 2004, with a Ba Hons in Printed Textile Design for Womenswear. It was here that her love of texture, colour and embellishment was first realized.
Leaving university, she worked for Dance Couturiers, Chrisanne Ltd, as their in-house Creative Textile Artist. A fabulously creative position, she was allowed to design and hand paint meters of fabric to then be transformed into the most stunning ballgowns. She designed laces to be made up into lengths of guipure, and travelled to fabric fairs across Europe sourcing pieces to make stunning one off gowns. Every dress was completely unique. It was at Chrisanne that she trained in dancewear design, which lead to designing costumes for various prime time television shows, including Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing with the Stars Norway and Austria, Dancing on Ice, Britain’s Next Top Model and Britain’s Got Talent.
Tamara was chosen as the Chrisanne designer to collaborate with Danish haute couture designer Isabell Kristensen to create three stunning gowns, all of which were exhibited in the Crystal Comes Dancing Exhibition at the Swarovski Lounge in Regent Street, London.
In 2009 she moved to Melbourne Australia, initially working for costumiers June Designs, designing and making for television shows Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Splash, Everybody Dance Now, as well as Megan Washington’s 2010 performance 2010 ARIA’s.
Tamara developed her skills by completing certificates in Garment Construction and Patternmaking, Styling and Couture, and Advanced Couture Techniques at the Melbourne Fashion Institute. She ended 2012 as a finalist in the TAFE Long Gown Awards, at the Fashion Awards Australia.
During her time living in Melbourne, Tamara has had the privilege of working with some of Australia’s best fashion and costume designers. She assisted Craig Braybrook, in making the evening gown for Miss Australia, placing 3rd at Miss Universe 2012, and designed with Alannah Hill for her new label Louise Love. In 2014, Tamara was the Assistant-Designer on the New Dancing with the Stars, working with Academy Award winning costume designer Tim Chappel, and most recently was a costume machinist for the NBC Universal mini-series Childhood’s End, under the direction of costume designers Shareen Beringer and Academy Award winner Nglia Dickson.
Tamara has gone on to use her multitude of skills in her label, launching in 2012. She started, designing a range of oufits for Melbourne soul band Clairy Browne and the Bangin’ Rackettes to wear for their US tour and their spectacular performance on the main stage at Splendour in the Grass. In both 2012, and 2013, her Fashions on the Field designs were featured in The Age newspaper, custom made for client Esther Warren. At the end of 2013, she was asked to take part in RAW:Encompass, showcasing new and emerging artists and went on to become the 2013 RAWards Australian Fashion Design Semi-Finalist. Since then, she has been happily making a steady stream of performance, eveningwear, race-wear, bridesmaid and wedding dresses.
